Communications Department Internship
The Communications Department internship program is designed to provide undergraduate students with an opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and experience by working in a challenging professional environment, which offers exposure to public policy issues and a behind the scenes look at the interaction between the Governor’s Office and the media.
The Communications Department assists the Governor in communicating his initiatives, priorities and views to the citizens of Minnesota. This includes issuing press releases and other special announcements, scheduling press conferences, releasing the Governor's public schedule and announcing appointments to various offices.
A minimum 12-hour commitment per week is necessary. All internships are unpaid, and students may be able to arrange for college credit. Students should be college sophomores, juniors, or seniors with previous office experience and computer skills. Maturity and excellent communication skills are necessary.
Interns will prepare news clips, assist in general office work, do research for speechwriters, handle logistics for gubernatorial events including press conference preparation, write news summaries, and distribute press releases.
Students interested in a Spring 2009 internship must apply by Friday, December 19, 2008. To download the application, please visit: http://www.governor.state.mn.us/contacts/internshipopportunities/index.htm
